MEASURING YOUR WEIGHT LOSS

Seeing weight loss is sometimes difficult. Focusing primarily on weight and stepping on the scales every day can be misleading, cause unnecessary anxiety and undermine your motivation without good reason.

You may want to lose fat - but the scale also measures muscles, bones and internal organs. Getting muscle is good. Thus, weight or BMI is not a great way to measure your progress.

Losing fat and gaining muscle is a big step forward, but you will not see it if you just measure your weight. Therefore, it is smart to also measure your belly fat by measuring your waist circumference.

How to use:

1. Place the measuring tape around the center of the abdomen, slightly above (to be exact: in the midpoint between your lowest rib and the top of the hip bone, at your side)

2. Exhale and relax (do not inhale)

3. Make sure that the measuring tape is tight enough

4. Measure

Measure progress

I suggest that you measure your waist circumference and weight before you begin your weight loss journey and then measure maybe once a week or once a month. Write down the results so you can see your progress. If you want, you can measure more parts of the body such as around the buttocks, chest, arms, legs, etc.

Note that your weight can vary up and down several kilos from day to day, depending on the fluid balance and stomach contents. Do not worry about short-term changes, instead follow the long-term trend.

Important health markers to check when you begin your weight loss

• Blood pressure

• Blood sugar

• Cholesterol

These indicators are almost always enhanced by a low carb diet, even before weight loss occurs.

Checking these health markers after a few months can be good for your motivation because they usually show that you are not only losing weight, you are also gaining health.

PS: Do not have a measuring tape at home? Try these options:

• Use any string. Pull the string around the waist and cut the string to fit the waist on day one. This string will magically seem to get longer and longer every week you wrap it around your waist.

• Comparing how an old pair of jeans fits is also a good alternative.

Good luck!
