5 Effects that can be caused by obesity

Updated: 44 minutes ago

Most people know that obesity is the leading cause of type 2 diabetes. They may also know that it causes many types of cancer. It causes heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure. Overall, obesity causes many health problems. Here are 5 things that obesity can cause that you may not think about in the first place.

1. Depression

Depression and obesity are often linked. There are many theories that obesity is often caused by depression. But it is also known that depression causes obesity in many individuals. The reason is complicated. People often lose their self-esteem and self-confidence when they are overweight. This can lead to depression. This is especially common in teens and young children who may encounter irritations at school.

But being overweight also affects a person's ability to get good sleep. For example, sleep apnea is often caused by being overweight. When a person cannot get high quality sleep, brain chemistry can change. Poor sleep often also leads to depression.

In addition, being overweight often contributes to inactivity. Activity and exercise release "feel good" hormones. These hormones are not released if you are inactive. The result of inactivity can be a depression or a chronic bad mood.

2. Poor sleep and sleep disorders

Obesity also causes a number of sleep disorders. Sleep is essential for normal physical and mental function. Poor sleep causes irritability and depression. It also causes a weakened immune system. Poor sleep causes a person to gain weight. The good news is that simply getting seven hours of sleep each night can make a world of difference.

3. Bad skin.

Obesity affects metabolism. It also affects hormone levels and organ function. Specifically, it can cause poor liver function or fatty liver disease. When your liver is not working well, your skin can pay the price. It may turn yellow. It can break out acne. You may even get skin infections due to a weakened immune system.

4. Hair and nails.

An overweight body struggles to function optimally. This means that several functions are ignored to take care of the most important functions such as the heart and lungs. Pretty quickly, you may notice that your hair changes. You can lose hair. It can change in structure and can become brittle. Your nails can also become brittle and yellow. This is due to a weakened immune system and poor liver function.

5. Decreased sexual interest and function.

Libido and sexual function can be drastically affected in overweight people. In fact, many overweight people find it extremely difficult to conceive. This is because hormone levels are unbalanced. Fat cells produce hormones. They also inhibit balanced hormone production. Your desire to have sex will diminish. If you are trying to have children, you may also be struggling with fertility problems. Finally, many obese women suffer from gynecological problems such as ovarian cysts and endometriosis.

Summary: I now read what I myself have written and think, damn how negative it was. Feels like the worst doomsday prophet regarding obesity. But I end with the good news. In as little as 4 weeks, you can begin to change your life. Even if you suffer from severe obesity, 3-6 months of your life can completely change all of the above negative obesity problems. You can regain your health and vitality. Will it be easy, no it will not. I would be lying if I said that. Often, habits that you have had for decades must change. But with a little push in the right direction comes the motivation. When it is in place, there is a chance to succeed.

We believe in you… do you?
