THE TRAINING THAT KEEPS YOU HEALTY AND SLOWS DOWN AGING

Updated: May 17, 2024

The miracle medicine Exercise - now it turns out that it keeps you young and healthy. Yes, not all types of training, but specifically high-intensity interval training.

I have advocated training Fifteen minutes a day, but now it turns out that there are additional benefits to high-intensity interval training - which of course I want to share with you!

High Intensive Interval Training, HIIT *, has long been recognized as one of the most effective forms of training. When you train high-intensity, you boost your metabolism, train your heart, increase your fat burning, your endurance and become stronger.

Now, researchers at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA, have found another positive effect of training high-intensity - You stay young longer!

The researchers studied three different forms of exercise:

1. HIIT.

2. Strength training.

3. Combined cardio and strength training.

It was only in the group that trained highly intensively that the researchers were able to measure a positive effect on the cells' mitochondria.

The mitochondria are linked to both oxygen uptake and combustion. As you get older, your mitochondria become less efficient.

The test groups consisted of two age groups, 13-30 and 65-80. In the younger group, it was seen that the mitochondrial efficiency increased by about 49 percent, while the increase in the older group was as much as 69 (!) Percent.

"Based on what we know, there is nothing that can replace high-intensity training when it comes to delaying aging. What happens in the body cannot be achieved with the help of medication, "says Sreekumaran Nair at the Mayo Clinic, who is one of the researchers behind the report. Yes, what can you say, other than that it's amazing how good our bodies feel from being able to move!

* HIIT - Short but intense interval workouts. The heart rate should be about 80-90% of the maximum heart rate in the intervals. A slightly simplified way to calculate your maximum heart rate is to take 220 minus your age. If you are 54 years old, your maximum heart rate is about 166 and in an interval workout, your heart rate should reach about 135.
