All people fast or take a break from eating for at least 6-8 hours a day. That's right, when you sleep! This happens when you sleep.
New research suggests taking a longer break in the morning instead of eating breakfast early, may help you lose weight and improve overall health. Our intermittent fasting means that we intentionally take a "break" from eating for 16 hours a day.
Intermittent fasting has been shown:
• Help lose weight and body fat
• Lower insulin levels (possible relapse of type 2 diabetes)
• Reduce inflammation
• Increase your metabolism
• Increase fat burning,
• Help with cell regeneration
• Improved mental clarity and concentration
• Increased energy
• Increased growth hormone
Here is a breakdown of what your body does every hour with intermittent fasting (after your last meal):
About 4-8 hours
• Blood sugars fall
• All food has left the stomach
• Food from the stomach has been burned as energy
Insulin is no longer produced
About 9-12 hours
• The digestive system is asleep
• The body begins to switch to stored fat as an energy source
• The body begins to heal
• The body begins to produce fat burning hormones such as;
- Human growth hormone
- Glucagon (to balance blood sugar)
- Testosterone
- Adrenaline
About 12-16 hours
• The body has converted to use stored fat as energy and ketones are released to provide energy to the heart, brain and other vital organs
• Human growth hormone begins to increase dramatically
• Cell renewal (Autophagy) begins and old / defective cells are recycled or renewed
Surely it's amazing? Weight loss is just one of the many health benefits of intermittent fasting.
